The use of the EquCellPen® are extremely varied owing to application-specific electrodes and variable settings. The device enables veterinarians and physiotherapists to effortlessly apply modern plasma medicine. The rechargeable battery means that work in the mobile equine practice can continue uninterrupted. Non-invasive cold plasma therapy is effective, yet painless, for treating both the skin and underlying tissue layers.
1 Glass electrode
The replaceable glass electrode is placed lightly on the patient’s skin. An audible plasma is created between the electrode and the skin. There is no need to shear the coat or use a contact agent.
2 Pulse frequency
The rotary «Impulse/s» control allows the pulse frequency to be set from 20 to 100 Hertz. A special function at the 10 Hertz setting allows therapy to be modulated from the highest to the lowest setting and back again.
3 Amplitude selection
The rotary «Amplitude» control is used to switch the device on and off. Turning the control determines the device’s output power and consequently the intensity of the therapy.

In dermatological applications, the plasma produced by the EquCellpen® has an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect. Cold atmospheric plasma has a proven and painless effect against bacteria, fungi and viruses. Bacterial dermatitis of the skin, in particular widespread malanders in horses, can be treated effectively with the mobile EquCellpen®. Chronic wounds, even those on exposed sites, can be made to heal thanks on the one hand to a debridement effect, while on the other the stimulation of cell activity promotes granulation. Epithelialisation is more organised, resulting in better-quality repair tissue. As cold plasma can also reduce itching, it is ideal for improving the symptoms of sweet itch and other allergy-related dermatitis.

Treatment with the EquCellpen® stimulates the metabolism, reduces swelling and promotes blood circulation. The stimulating effect of cold plasma on cell activity encourages the regeneration of injured tissue. The main orthopaedic indications in horses are protracted diseases of the lower limbs, especially the tendons and ligaments, which lead to prolonged absences for sport horses. Chronic inflammations can be favourably influenced with the EquCellpen®. The easily manageable, cordless device means that treatment can be carried out independently of location and usually alongside other measures. The short treatment time with the pen is a key advantage.

The easily manageable EquCellpen® enables the physiotherapist to apply direct cold plasma therapy and high-frequency electrotherapy simultaneously. In this manner, chronic wounds can be encouraged to heal. Patients in rehab after operations or those with typical sports injuries benefit from an accelerated and improved healing process thanks to the deep penetration effect of high-frequency therapy. Sport horses with muscular tension, spasms in the neck or back area, as well as painful trigger points, can be treated very effectively with relaxing EquCellpen® therapy. The short application times allow this form of therapy to be used in many different ways, and it can be combined well with other healing methods.
